Located at 500 Clemenceau Ave N, Newton Food Centre stands as a vibrant hawker centre that perfectly encapsulates the rich and diverse food culture of Singapore. This iconic food hub offers an unbeatable blend of local and regional favourites that cater to every palate. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning fan, Newton Food Centre’s bustling atmosphere and expansive menu make it a culinary destination not to be missed.
Step into the centre and you are immediately enveloped by an enlivening mix of sizzling woks, smoky barbecues, and fragrant spices that define Singapore’s beloved hawker scene. The aroma alone beckons you to explore further, teasing your senses with promises of mouthwatering delights.
Signature dishes here include the legendary charcoal-grilled Chicken Satay, served with rich, savory peanut gravy alongside refreshing cucumber and onions. For larger groups or special occasions, their satay sets, offering combinations of chicken, beef or mutton satays, BBQ prawns, and squid, offer a feast that brings people together over shared indulgence. Meanwhile, seafood lovers crave the crispy, flavor-packed Oyster Omelette and the uniquely textured Gong Gong clams, showcasing the freshest regional seafood.
Newton Food Centre is also famous for its local classics like Fried Carrot Cake, which offers a perfect balance between a lightly sweet glaze and a delightfully savory bite, and Sambal Kang-Kong, a vibrant, spicy vegetable dish that ignites the palate. The refreshingly sweet Sugar Cane Juice and Thai Coconut drinks provide a welcome reprieve from Singapore’s tropical heat, complementing the rich flavors perfectly.
Beyond the food, customers consistently praise the recent renovations which have enhanced the cleanliness and overall experience—modern wash basins, fresh paintwork, and well-maintained seating lend a refreshing edge to this traditional hawker experience. The atmosphere is lively yet comfortable, with families, tourists, and locals mingling in an unfussy, friendly environment.
Visitors like Johnny Au appreciate not only the fantastic food but also the improved cleanliness and freshness of the space, calling their experience "worth a visit.” Others such as Nicole Syriotis highlight the generous portions and bold, authentic flavors that truly capture the essence of Singaporean street food culture. Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded stalls within the centre add an extra layer of culinary prestige that food enthusiasts find irresistible.
The only minor challenge noted by some guests is securing convenient transport after a satisfying meal, but this small inconvenience pales in comparison to the unparalleled variety and quality on offer.
In essence, Newton Food Centre is more than just a hawker centre—it is a convivial gathering place where you can immerse yourself in Singapore’s gastronomic heritage, enjoy spirited conversations, and sample an extraordinary range of dishes that reflect the city’s multicultural tapestry. Whether you’re craving fiery Satay, tangy Soup Dumplings, or simply want to sip on a cool, refreshing lychee ice, Newton’s dynamic and authentic hawker scene invites you to experience Singapore one bite at a time.
Visited Newton Food Centre recently. It’s been about 10 years since last visit. The renovation has worked really well. Love the new wash basins and everything looked really clean and fresh. The food was fantastic as usual. The only difficulty was getting a cab back to the hotel. Otherwise Newton Food Centre is worth a visit in Singapore.
Newton Food Centre offers a wide variety of local dishes, making it easy to find something for everyone. One of the highlights is that several stalls are Michelin Bib Gourmand–recognized, which adds to its appeal, especially for first-time visitors. The carrot cake was quite delicious, though it leaned a bit on the sweeter side. The chicken wings were just okay for the price, and the minimum order of three pieces felt a little restrictive. These days, Newton feels more like a tourist hotspot than a regular local hangout, and the prices reflect that—they’re generally higher compared to other hawker centres. Overall rating: ⭐ 4/5 Great variety and convenience, with some standout stalls, but higher prices due to its popularity with tourists.
Newton Food Centre is a must-visit in Singapore. Lively, authentic, and packed with incredible food options, it’s everything you want from a classic hawker centre. The variety is outstanding — from local favourites to late-night comfort dishes, there’s something for everyone. Prices are very reasonable, portions are generous, and the flavours are bold and authentic. It’s the kind of place where you can try multiple dishes in one visit and still want to come back again. The atmosphere is busy and energetic, especially in the evenings, but that’s part of the charm. Despite the crowds, there’s plenty of seating and the space is well laid out. Being open 24 hours is a huge bonus, whether you’re after a late supper, early breakfast, or anything in between. Great spot for travellers wanting a genuine local experience, groups with different tastes, or anyone keen to eat well without breaking the bank. Casual, vibrant, and full of character — exactly what a Singapore hawker centre should be. Huge variety of food Authentic local flavours Affordable prices ⏰ Open 24 hours Lively atmosphere Highly recommended.
Nice Singapore local hawker food. Satay and BBQ chicken wings are really nice, BBQ seafood is also not bad. Long waiting time for the oyster omelette and fried carrot cake, taste ok.
Our visit to Newton Food Centre was honestly such a highlight of the trip. We tried the Michelin-rated satay stall and it was so GREAT. We also grabbed the big avocado lime ice and lychee ice, and both were incredibly refreshing. What I love most is the variety here. It’s literally a food heaven: Thai, Indian, Malay, Indonesian dishes, local Singapore classics, desserts, everything in one place. You’ll never run out of things to try. The nasi goreng we ordered was awesome, and their teri buncis was AMAZING. SUPER flavorful UMAMI We had a super fun time eating our way around. Definitely a must visit if you love food and want to taste a little bit of everything.
Authentic Singaporean experience, met a few locals and got some recommendations from them. Can’t remember the name of the place but there was a line and it served crispy pork, Char Siu pork and roast duck! Everything I had was tasty and I devoured it!! Also got a young coconut and it was massive. Yum Shared a table with some locals too. Very good atmosphere.
Newton Food Center is often touted as a must-visit tourist destination for hawker food, and I must admit, I approached it with the expectation of average food quality and high prices typical of tourist spots. However, I was pleasantly surprised! The food we ordered, including some popular dishes, turned out to be not only good but truly delicious. The prices were reasonable and not as exorbitant as I had anticipated. Sambal Stingray - A flavorful dish that was cooked to perfection and spice level was acceptable Seafood Hokkien Mee, which is rich in taste and generously portioned. Satay - Tender and well-marinated, served with a delightful peanut sauce. Garlic Naan Bread with Butter Chicken: A fantastic pairing that left us wanting more. Overall, I would highly recommend Newton Food Center to both locals and tourists alike. It’s a great spot to enjoy authentic hawker fare without breaking the bank!
